Teeth whitening is a simple procedure that can dramatically whiten your smile by removing stain and discoloration caused by tobacco, coffee, tea, or red wine. As well, teeth tend to get a bit more yellow as we get older, so getting your teeth whitened can be the perfect way to brighten your smile.
There are a few different methods of whitening your teeth that can be performed at home or in less than 2 hours at Riverstone Dental.
Different methods to whiten your teeth:
1) ZOOM! In-office whitening
Zoom! teeth whitening is safe, effective and very fast, and performed only by a dental professional. The results in 45 minutes are similar to 2 weeks of at-home bleaching. The results are immediate, it is safe and comfortable with less fade-back and longer-lasting results than other bleaching treatments.
The procedure is simple. It begins with a short preparation to protect the soft tissue leaving only the teeth exposed. The whitening gel is then applied to the teeth and the light is turned on. The gel and the light work together to penetrate the teeth and break up stain and discoloration. The gel and light are applied for three or four 15 minute intervals for a total of 45-60 minutes.
Once the ZOOM! procedure is complete we will also provide custom take-home bleaching trays to use at home to continue the whitening process or to use for touch-ups in the future.
2) Take-home bleaching trays
Custom trays will be made after impressions are taken. The trays are made to fit your teeth exactly. We provide the bleaching agent that will be placed in the trays and worn for an hour a day for up to 10 days. The level of whiteness can be controlled by using take-home bleaching since you can stop at any time or continue for longer. The trays can also be used in the future for touch up.
3) Bleaching products from the drug store (eg. toothpastes, rinses, white strips, gels...)
This is a good place to start. However, the bleaching products available in the drug stores are at lower concentrations than what the dentist can provide and therefore will provide limited results.
